It's easy to know why someone would want to protect their laptop from getting stolen.

You might value the laptop solely because it's an expensive piece of equipment or maybe because of the data you carry around with it.

Whatever your reason, you should not think that just because you keep your laptop close to you at all times, that you don't need one.

The simple fact is that it only takes a few seconds for your laptop to be stolen and by using a laptop cable lock you get rid of that risk.

Nobody can honestly say they watch their laptop all the time, so trying to say that you won't need a good laptop lock is simply wrong.

Many people who deal with lapsop usually think all the security you need is just making sure it doesn't get a virus, or spyware or other types of software related problems. The truth is that what good does that do, if someone simply steals your laptop right from under your nose? None.

Besides installing that type of software you should also do things to protect your actual physical laptop too.

You should always hide the laptop when not using it. Leaving your laptop out for everyone to see is just not wise. If they can't see it in the first place, they will have no desire to steal it. There might be someone who wasn't even planning on stealing it, but if they see it ripe for the pickings they might not be able to help themselves, because, hey, free laptop! That's pretty inviting.

Also, don't use a regular laptop bag. Sometimes people see a laptop bag and steal it because they assume it has a laptop in it, even if they get home to realize it didn't. Also, if you use a regular bag for your laptop, it will cut down on people thinking you have one.
